I ordered the
barbeque ribs, collard greens and coleslaw, and all were delicious.
The service was warm and friendly, but my drink order never made it
to the table until my lunch arrived, which oddly enough didn't bother
me. I forgot to order some cornbread but to my delight a piece
came with my meal. The lunch menu was focused and to the point
with just a handful of thoughtful appealing dishes. It's
always best to make your signature dishes and make them well rather
than appeal to everyone.
The quality of my meal was exceptional. Sometimes less is more as
I wasn't overpowered by colossal portions, but rather just enough to
fill me up. The good people at Indigo put a great deal of
thought into every detail and nothing was overlooked. The
combination of a local entrepreneur who has taken the time to create
a tasty cultural experience with better than fair
pricing should pave the way for this place to become a permanently
loved and respected place in the Montclair, NJ, community for
many years. -Jersey Shadow-

Martini
Bistro & Bar
- When
going to a restaurant that I haven't been to before, I find that
it's a good idea to listen to the local buzz. Martini Bistro
& Bar in Millburn seemed to have pleased quite a few people, so
off we went to give it a try.
Being that it was the middle of the week, one wouldn't expect a
large crowd, but Martini's is only one block from the Papermill
Playhouse and it was theater night. Fortunately, we had made
reservations.
At Martini's you enter directly into the bar and my first impression
was oh - no - this is going to be a loud, raucous dinner - lots
of young people enjoying food and drink. Not that I don't
enjoy a good bar atmosphere, but I wasn't in the mood on that
particular evening. Not to worry, though; we were ushered up a
few stairs through a door and into a totally serene room with dining
tables set with crisp linens. Soft jazz was playing and the
atmosphere couldn't have been more relaxing.
The food fit nicely with the whole setting - not rushed and
perfectly prepared. The salads, mixed field greens, shallots
with just the right amount of balsamic vinaigrette, were chilled
and very fresh.
I ordered the Filet Mignon, haricot vert, served over whipped
potatoes. Oh boy, was that good and so large I could barely
finish it - but I did. My dinner guest ordered 7 spice crusted
Ahi Tuna with fried Asian vegetables and Ponzu Sauce. We were
two very satisfied customers. Martini Bistro & Bar is
equipped to meet the demands of someone looking for a burger or the
diner who is looking for a full course meal. Very few
establishments will attempt to accommodate both types of patrons --
and Martini's does it well. -Jersey Shadow-
