Aside from this major distraction and obvious blunder
which I'm sure will be corrected, the meal was
fantastic. I'm a big fan of simple but flavorful
food, and Alice's delivered both and at reasonable
prices. Alice's has a warm (by this I mean
cozy), comfortable and relaxed vibe to it, and the wait
staff were all decked out in their Alice's shirts.
The menu was uncluttered and simple... always a good
sign. The spinach salad jumped right out at me
as did the burger. The salad was delicious as
was the burger. The ribs were a standout as were
the beer battered onion rings and the mac and cheese.
As you can see all simple food, and on this day all
perfectly done. Of particular note -- the bread
basket filled with home-made specialty bread and
extraordinary biscuits surely pleased our diners.
Alice has made quite a mark here... set the bar high
and the food is delicious, dishes well conceived and
presented and set in the perfect environment.
Once those glass panels come out ,things should get
better out on the deck, so by all means call ahead if

Grato Restaurant - Morris
Plains has a pretty swanky place for lunch at the Grato next to the Tabor Road Tavern. I would
never mention two restaurants together but they are both under the same
ownership. I decided it was time to check out the Grato for lunch and
see how they do.
I was surprised when entering to see so many full tables
for midweek... always a good sign. The place was inviting, open
and airy with pleasant music playing and not too loudly. The restaurant was
impeccably clean and the staff efficient, warm and eager to please.
The lunch menu was awesome with everything from full
meals to lighter lunches and salads. There was a mark of wisdom in
the menu with offerings in a wide price range so one does not have to spend a
fortune for a nice lunch experience.
I decided to go lighter this day and ordered the veal
and meatball panini which was absolutely delicious and flavorful. My
guest had a panini as well with roasted tomatoes,
in-house made mozzarella and fresh basil -- delicious
and very filling.
There is a lot to be said about being the Jersey Shadow
because nobody knows who I am so you can always be sure of an unbiased review. This
place has been here a couple of years and has had plenty
of time to fall off its game, but it hasn't. I can share with
you that the Grato is very solid and may well be a permanent fixture here for
