IL Villaggio
Restaurant -
I often hear of interesting places to dine from
readers and friends which is always welcome. On a
recommendation from a friend, I checked out IL Villaggio in Morris
Plains on a Sunday evening. Walking into a good restaurant
without a reservation at 5:30PM in Northern New Jersey usually means
one thing... a long wait. IL Villaggio is located in a
strip mall in the "Powder Mill" complex so one would think
the place would be packed, or at least busy, but there were only a
few diners when we arrived... not a good sign.
The restaurant is much larger on the inside than it looks from the
outside and it's comfortable but not overly so. The service
was good as we were waited on immediately. Sure there weren't
many people there, but I've been to many an empty place and had to
wait to get served so this was a great sign that perhaps a good meal
lay ahead.
My guest had the Veal Francese and remarked how good it was.
I had the Veal Madeira which was quite good. My veal special
came with artichokes, shitake mushrooms and peppers. The veal
was very high quality and it was a good portion, not overwhelming
nor under so. I'd much rather enjoy a high quality veal meal
that's correctly portioned rather than something of lesser quality but
more of it.
I enjoyed my veal so much and I had room for dessert, so I ordered
the Chocolate Mouse Cake which was very rich and very delicious.
Diners began arriving during our meal and as we left the whole room
where we were seated was nearly filled. I does seem a bit odd
to me that one can walk into a decent restaurant in Northern New
Jersey without a reservation on a Sunday after 5:30pm and sit right
down, but It can be done at IL Villaggio.
So there you have it... a good place to eat on a Sunday
evening and a good time to go. -Jersey Shadow-
